BattleBots R3
The Rochester Tooling and Machining Association (RTMA) has joined forces with the wildly popular TV show BattleBots® to create an event that is destined to leave a lasting impression: The Rochester Robot Rampage (R3). R3 is the perfect mix of business and extreme engineering entertainment with a trade show promoting manufacturing and engineering as well as hosting a Championship Tournament of the newest extreme sport of the 21st-century: BattleBots ®. This was a great event. Team Moon entered two bots: Star Hawk 3.0 and KITT. The primary purpose for Star Hawk 3.0 competing at this event was to test our new weapons mounts and to test all of our types of weapons (or as many as we could.) The results were terrific. We suffered no weapons problems at all throughout the event. We learned a little about our super axe that will be useful at future events as well. Finally, we were able to test our "side flip" device -- which worked however we were still flipped by Ziggy end over end -- so more work to do on anti-flipper technology. Overall, Star Hawk ended the event with a disappointing 1 win - 2 loss record, however on the plus side we did win the Super Heavyweight Rumble and were able to do a couple of robot sacrifices as well. The event was KITT's debut event. KITT did reasonably well for a new platform. We lost the first fight to a very tough bot in a judges decision and won the second via a knockout. The third fight was lost due to the radio power switching being turned off by a piece of debris. We've got some big plans for KITT before the nationals and I think this bot will be much tougher by that time frame.
